Carol Ann Duffy was born in Glasgow and grew up in England. At the age of 14 she decided that she would be a poet; her poems have since received many honours. Her poetry collections, which include Mean Time, The World's Wife, Feminine Gospels and Penguin Selected Poems, have received such prizes as the Whitbread Award, the Forward Prize and the Somerset Maugham Award. She has also written several books of poetry for children.
