Yves Beauchemin is a towering figure in modern Quebec literature. He worked as a journalist for many years before turning to fiction. His second novel, The Alley Cat, was published in 1981 and became the all-time bestselling novel in Quebec literature. It won several awards, has been translated into 15 languages and was adapted for film.
