2007 VIWF Writing Contest Winners Announced
(January 14, 2008, Vancouver)— The winners of the Ninth Annual Vancouver International Writers Festival Poetry and Short Story Contest have been announced. First prizewinner in the short story category goes to Ryan Frawley of Vancouver for his story, The Agony of Things. The second prizewinner is Langley resident Ingrid Brunkhorst Hurrell for her story, The Whaler. In the poetry category two Vancouverites received top honours. First place winner is Susan Steudel for her poem Light Transit and the second place prize goes to Anna Helena Wärje for Child’s Garden.
Winners receive a cash prize ($350 for first prize in each category, $250 for second prize) and first place winning pieces will be published in sub-Terrain magazine. All winners will be published on the Writers Festival website (www.writersfest.bc.ca). This year’s contest judges were Gillian Jerome, Jen Sookfong Lee and Brendan McLeod. The contest is sponsored by Book Warehouse.
