Alma Lee Legacy Fund
Create a literary legacy. Make your donation to the Alma Lee Legacy Fund.
We are seeking support from everyone who cares about writing, reading and creating a literate society. Here is a list of Alma Lee Legacy donors. The VIWF is pleased to announce that on October 16, 2007 we reached our initial goal of $350,000 for the Alma Lee Legacy Fund, just in time for the 2007 Festival. The fund has now grown to more than $913,888. Thank you to all of our generous donors! Thank you to Vancouver Foundation, the BC Renaissance Fund and Canadian Heritage for supporting the Alma Lee Legacy Fund.
Why does the Writers Festival need an endowment?
The Vancouver International Writers Festival needs the growing resources, flexibility, and financial stability that only an endowment can provide. Gifts to the Alma Lee Legacy Fund will be held in perpetuity, and the interest generated will be an annual source of support for the Festival, forever.

“Alma is a builder who didn’t just adopt someone else’s idea, but created something that others now emulate. She believes that stories are essential for people to understand and enjoy life to the fullest, and is determined that young people be given the opportunity to bring stories into their lives.”

Your gift to the Alma Lee Legacy Fund will encourage
Expanded artistic vision
Presenting an annual Nobel Prize winner… Updating our resources for classrooms… Promoting broad cultural diversity at the Festival… Annual revenue from the endowment will allow us to expand programming at the Vancouver International Writers Festival and year round at special events, and enhance our education programs for young people.
Flexibility
The endowment will allow us to bring authors we know audiences will love, even if they are not on tour. We will have the financial flexibility to broaden our programming, attract writers of prominent stature and respond to our audience’s interests like never before.
Stability
By having a permanent endowment, the Festival will enjoy a new level of financial stability on which we can confidently plan our future.
A literate future
Spreading the Word, our education program for grades K-12, creates a passion for reading, writing and learning among BC students each year. The program puts writers into schools in small BC communities, offers a writing contest for secondary school students, brings young people to the Festival and supports teachers with practical classroom tools. The Alma Lee Legacy Fund will ensure that we can enhance and deliver these important programs to create a more literate future.
