Change people's lives by supporting the Vancouver Writers Fest.
Support a keystone in Canada’s vibrant cultural community. The Vancouver Writers Fest is one of the most celebrated literary festivals in the world, hosting life-changing discussions between audiences and both award winning and emerging authors.
For almost 30 years, the Vancouver Writers Fest has created an intimate, inspiring atmosphere where people of all ages and backgrounds explore ideas through the work of internationally renowned writers. The Festival’s flagship October programming brings more than 18,000 people to Granville Island for close to 100 events each year. The organization also provides a range of year-round initiatives to further encourage reading and literacy.
The Festival’s educational programming, Spreading the Word, offers K-12 students the opportunity to interact with celebrated writers from across the globe. With more than 40 events specially designed for young people and their teachers, schools and student groups can feed their imagination with author readings and study guides built around provincial curriculum. The Festival ensures these educational opportunities are accessible to all by offering subsidized tickets and transportation to in-need schools.
The Festival also organizes free school visits with authors through the Reading with Writers program, bringing professional writers to often-vulnerable youth in in-need schools across the Lower Mainland. The Festival’s week-long Writers in Residence programs stimulate a love of literacy in youth located in communities throughout the province.
Incite is a free spring reading series in partnership with the Vancouver Public Library, where the Festival shares the power of the written word and its ability to connect the broad demographics of city residents at this highly accessible and welcoming location.
If you are interested in how literacy and storytelling can transform the lives of everyone in our community, please support the Vancouver Writers Fest. Your contribution will ensure that Vancouver continues to be a cultural hub on the world stage while providing education and opportunities to people from all walks of life.
Take Advantage of Your Employer's Matching Program
Many of Canada’s leading companies and their foundations match contributions made by their employees and retirees to charitable organizations like the Vancouver Writers Fest. Click here for details or check with your employer to learn how you can make your gift to the VWF go further!
Your bequest to the Vancouver Writers Fest will help us continue to offer literary events with the world's best writers and programs that encourage and inspire children to read and write. For more information on leaving a gift in your will, please contact Andrew Forshner at 604-681-630 ext.104.
The Vancouver Writers Fest now accepts donations of publicly traded securities and bequests. Capital gains taxes have been eliminated on direct donations of publicly traded securities to registered charities. This means donating appreciated securities will save you substantially more in taxes than giving the equivalent in cash. Please contact Andrew Forshner, Development Director, via email or by phone at 604-681-6330 ext.104 to discuss these options.
Great news! CanadaHelps now accepts gifts of securities online. With the elimination of capital gains on donations of publically traded securities last year, gifts of securities are now the most tax efficient way to make a charitable donation...and a great way for donors to make a greater impact with their gift.
It's easy - both for donors and charities. Once a donor has completed the online process and the shares have been sold, the donor receives their tax receipt and the charity receives the funds. It's just that simple. To find out more about how it works, visit CanadaHelps.
